🖌️ AI Artist Paid $90,000 for 60 Hours of Work

... and pay extra for AI to inspect boobas?

Hello, fellow nerds 🧙

A dude named Gary Marcus just bet Elon Musk $1 million that his claim “AI will be smarter than humans by 2025” is hot dog water.

This is what Gary is challenging in particular “whatever smart intellectual labor any human working on their own, even the best human in a given domain, can do will be beaten by AI by end of 2025”

Hopefully Mr. Marcus can put his money where his mouth is because we’re so ready to have a popcorn moment.

Here’s the daily quests in AI to complete today:

AI Artist paid $90,000 By Card Game Dev Because No One Comes Close

8 images of creatures on cards that were AI-generated

The madlads over at Champions of Otherworldly Magic are making headlines by openly admitting they paid a whopping $90,000 to an "AI artist" for cranking out their card illustrations.

According to the devs, this artist managed to spit out hundreds upon hundreds of "AMAZING" card artworks in the span of just 10 hours per month. All for a cool $15,000 monthly fee.

The company is doubling down too, asserting that no mere human artists could match the quality, consistency, and blistering pace delivered by their AI art machine. Definitely some shots fired at the traditional art community right there.

Their CEO is out here boldly claiming they'd have to assemble an entire team of flesh-and-blood illustrators to even come close to replicating the output of this one AI Picasso. Not to mention the astronomical costs compared to paying a robot a few G’s to endlessly churn out badass monster designs.

Now, the card art itself isn't necessarily redefining the fantasy illustration wheel from what we've seen. There are some occasional claw and paw wonkiness giving away the AI's machine learning origins. But the devs insist everything gets personally touched up to avoid any extra finger shenanigans.

More importantly though, they simply don't care HOW this prolific AI artist is making these images happen. Just that the final assets look slick enough to get players hooked on amassing the latest crypto-backed Champions NFT cards.

It's a bold strategy, Cotton. Openly celebrating employing an AI artist over human creators in a creative field like fantasy art? In this economic climate? You know the critics are going to be absolutely frothing at the mouth over this one.

And boy, they sure are.

Pay Extra For AI Mammograms?

Healthcare is arguably one of the most important fields to ensure the use of cutting edge innovation and technology. The age old boob vice is no exception.

The Pitch
AI mammograms are the next frontier in breast cancer screening. With the ability to boost radiologists' detection powers and spot early signs of tumors that might otherwise get missed.

The Data

  • Traditional mammograms identify approximately 87% of breast cancer.

  • Increased % of missed cancer in women with dense breast tissue and younger women.

  • Patients with tumors smaller than 15mm when detected, have a 90% survival rate over the next 5 years.

  • Early stage tumors are nearly invisible to the human eye (millimeters)

The Cost
Make no mistake, this robo-radiology addon isn’t free for patients. Early adopters are tacking on out-of-pocket fees for that extra AI-assisted analysis, especially since there aren’t any insurance billing codes to cover AI.

Although pricing varies, they tend to range between $40 and $100.

But is it actually worth forking over the Benjamin on top of your regular mammogram costs?

The Worries
There are lingering concerns about whether these AI breast scan models have been trained on a diverse enough dataset to avoid potential biases across different races, ethnicities, and demographics.

After all, no one wants an algorithm disproportionately missing cases or hiccupping on certain groups because of crappy inputs.

But it all depends on which AI model a clinic is using. Remember Mia for example, it was trained on millions of mammograms.

The Concensus
Broadly speaking, the jury's still out on whether these AI boob scan models are worth a damn until there's more rigorous, diverse, real-world validation.

At the end of the day, will you be in the camp of coulda, woulda, or shoulda?

Daily Delight

Just something fun and interesting around the web.

So flying cars have always been an awesome idea, but this company has finally nailed it. Plus, they’re FAA certified. And you could be seeing these flying cars as early as 2025. Um, technology, please slow down.
