Alexa Could Finally Be Getting A Buff
Holy hell, itās about damn time. No joke, Kacey and I were just talking about his the other night. Like, whenās Alexa gonna get a killer update? Because OpenAI is making Amazon look like a bunch of wet noodles. Especially since the vast majority of Alexaās are literally used as a timer, a way to look up the weather, or turn some lights on or off. Thatās it.
The promised future of Alexa being this all knowing voice assistant that could bring your home into the āfutureā has been such a let down. But thanks to the competition out thereāOpenAIās announcement of GPT-4oāAlexa could finally be seeing the buff we thought itād have, well, 10 years ago.
Imagine you could actually have a two way conversation with Alexa, and it could look things up with damn near 100% reliability. You could actually talk with it without being absolutely annoyed. Oh how happy I would be. Maybe, juts maybe, the Alexaās in our house would actually be used more often.
Now apparently, this buff is gonna cost some extra cash, and itāll be allegedly on top of your Amazon Prime subscription. There have been some reported numbers floated around internally, and itās not confirmed whether weāll have to dish out $9 or $20 a month.
Would paying extra be worth it?
Well, if Alexa can get up to speed with GPT-4o, yeah, I think it would be. Alexa could finally operate as a true home assistant, or AI agent as the AI world likes to call them.
This move makes absolute sense, and by golly if thereās an AI god out there, I hope this buff happens.
Mama Bear is Crushing It, Literally
Meet Mama Bear, the Mechanics of Additively Manufactured Architectures Bayesian Experimental Autonomous Researcher. Now thatās a mouth full.
But this isnāt just any robot. Mama Bear has been designed to run autonomous experiments to crush varying shapes no human would even think of designing.
Sheās been running experiments without food or sleep for 8,000+ hours to test shock absorption while managing to document her research perfectly. Watch the video of her daily routine here.
Not only is she diligent, sheās efficient to boot. Although we couldnāt help but notice how she could at least take care of her hair in the morning, aka handle some better wire management.
Through all of her research, sheās figured out how to create a 3D printed shape that absorbs 75% of the energy forced upon it. Weirdly enough, in most cases, we want a balance of absorbing impact without crushing whatever is impacting it.
Imagine a car bumper with 75% absorption. Each car would effectively absorb the impact of the other, reducing damage as well as whiplashā¦ woah!
āļø Throwback Thursday
A little blast from the past.
If youāre a true Morrowind fan, hold onto your britches because thereās an original developer returning to the game after 20 years to mod the hell out of it.
His current mission? Quest mods. And it just so happens a beefy one is out now. Itās called Red Wisdom - An Ashlander Prophecy.
Now if youāre looking to spice up Morrowind even moreābecause lets be honest, Bethesda aināt touching this game again with a 10 foot pole, which is truly a shameācheck out the other mods Douglas Goodall aka Affa has cooked up for Morrowind. Or download a giant mod collection from Nexus and have yourself a ball. Whatever your heart desires, a mod probably exists for it. Seriously.

Just something fun and interesting around the web.
Remember when Reddit decided to sell its data to the big boy tech companies to train AI models? And remember when we said there were a bunch of degenerates on Reddit? Well, hereās a real life result of AI being trained on some real degeneracy. Thank you, Reddit user Fucksmith. Your AI training service is commendable.
