⌠and Fauxtomation = Human Powered AI
Hello, fellow nerds đ§
If youâre a TikTok fan, it looks like its days could be numbered.
There have been talks for years of banning TikTok due to it being owned by a Chinese company, opening up some major security concerns and risks for users. Well, the day has finally come where itâs official: TikTok will be banned unless it sells to an American owner. Thereâs no word on who would buy it, but shoot, maybe Elonâs got another trick up his sleeve.
Hereâs the daily quests in AI to complete today:

When ChatGPT is Better Than Your Boss
Or thatâs at least what the majority of Gen Z believes.
So thereâs a new study that just dropped some harsh truths about the state of workplace environments. Turns out theyâre just a smidge toxic. Career experts at Intoo surveyed hundreds of employees and HR leaders, and the findings are... pretty damning, to say the least.
Nearly 80% of respondents admitted to experiencing telltale signs of an unhealthy, dysfunctional workplace at some point in their careers. We're talking managers playing insane favorites, blatantly ignoring employee feedback, you know, the kind of stuff that makes you wanna scream in the employee bathroom.
But perhaps the most alarming revelation? Gen Z workers openly admitting they get better career advice from AI chatbots like ChatGPT than their actual human managers and bosses. Let that one sink in for a second...
It's not just some minor annoyance either - we're talking almost 50% of Gen Zers flat-out saying the algorithms give them better career advice than their human bosses. Thatâs a big yikes.
The data backs up the manager slander too. Over 40% cited superiors ignoring feedback, while a staggering 39% said they've received straight-up BAD career guidance from the same people meant to be mentoring them.
Itâs no surprise, the surveyed HR leaders are bracing for a 25% labor exodus in the coming months as jaded workers start bailing. Because why stick around somewhere when advancement is zero and your boss ranges from a cardboard cutout to a toxic child?
The Big Takeaway
Oh doctor, do workplaces have some serious soul-searching and renovation to do ASAP on the management front. Whether it's overhauling promotion processes, training programs, communication channels or all of the above, something is clearly not working.
Now these arenât exactly groundbreaking revelations for 2024. But it's still an unfortunate wake-up call that too many organizations have a long way to go before their own employees stop openly preferring an AIâs advice over an actual human.
Fauxtomation = Human Powered AI
Amazonâs not so automated âJust Walk Outâ shopping experience reminded us not all automations are actually automated.
When human labor is disguised as technology, itâs called âfauxtomation.â You know, like a faux Mohawk. Just as fake, but not as cool.
Honestly, the whole idea feels a bit more scummy than calling water gluten free.
Another example of âfauxtomationâ is X.ai. In 2016, the futuristic automated personal assistant was powered by humans. Some may say the human babysitters were simply there to ensure accuracy but how many humans does it take before AI isnât considered AI?
Whether itâs being used as a marketing tactic or a way to stand out to potential investors, âfauxtomationâ is here to stay no matter how unethical mislabeling AI can be.
