The Godmother of AI Has Spoken
And she is not too happy with everyone focusing on the AI apocalypse when other matters like AI disinformation are on our doorstep. A sidenote, Kacey did comment thatās exactly what a rogue AI would say, so some fruit for thought thereā¦
Now whoās this Godmother of AI? Great question.
Dr. Fei Fei Li is a computer scientist who was the guiding hand at creating a massive database called, ImageNet, which laid the entire foundation for artificial intelligence as we know it. So sheās a pretty big deal.
Her words of advice?
We need to be working on the immediate repercussions and social risks of AI. You know, things like the disruption of disinformation and misinformation to our democratic process, or, giant labor market shifts and privacy issues that are hitting people right now.
And sure, we can ponder on our sci-fi fantasies of AI being an extinction level event to humanity as we know it, but Dr. Fei Fei Li believes thatās truly not gonna happen. Which Iād have to agree with.
As fun as it is to sit back and ponder what the world would look like if Terminator Jr was locked and loaded and causing mayhem, that scenario seems highly unlikely.
I do think itās easier to think about AI and sci-fi than it is to wrap our heads around the real world changes that are happening, and going to happen, because AI colliding with the real world is still so foreign. And quite frankly, happening so fast.
But as with anything new, thereāll always be some growing pains. I mean, look at the internet. So much change happened because of a string of numbers and words that let you see the world from the comfort of your home.
We adapted though, and I truly believe weāll adapt alongside AI.
Decoding The Human Brain One Millimeter at a Time
It shouldnāt surprise you that Google and Harvard teamed up to create a 3D map in super high nanoscale resolution of one cubic millimeter of the human brain. For such a small area, the brain holds 57,000 cells, 150 million synapses (communication lines between neurons) and 230 millimeters of blood vessels.
Did we mention these sample slices are one thousandth the thickness of human hair? Now, to put that into perspective, our brains are over a million cubic millimeters. To get such a high level of detail, a sample was cut into 5,000 slices, scanned with a special microscope and then stitched back together by a machine learning model created by Google. To transform the raw data into something usable, while piecing the slices back together, the cells and synapses were color coded depending on how deep into the brain the connections were.
We used to think ARK devoured a lot of dataā¦ if youāve ever ran into storage problems to install your favorite game and played a bit of hard drive Tetris, imagine trying to free up 1.4 PB (petabytes) of data. Holy hell. Thatās 1.4 million GB (gigabytes).
Not that any of us care, but the research was done in a neuroscience field called āconnectonomicsā which studies the connections between cells. I dunno about you but I suppose anything with -nomics at the end gets me going š¤£ Ergonomics being one of themā¦ who else has adjusted their gaming chair to be the perfect height for maximum FPS efficiency while also maintaining your posture?!?

Introducingā¦ AI Lawyer
Are you sick of paying lawyers thousands of dollars just to take your call? Well AI has you covered. Maybe. Kinda. Sorta. Hopefully?
Supposedly the AI Lawyer can help with cases ranging from compliance and tax law to child support.
But hold up. Weāre not lawyers and weāre definitely not giving legal advice here so donāt take our word for it.
Like almost every AI tool, itās free, until it isnāt. Thatās how they get you.
Check it out for yourself!

Phil Spencer, the CEO of Microsoft Gaming, has officially been nuked by a player in Fallout 76. Is this vengeance for the recent closings of three gaming studios? Maybe. Who knows, but Iām sure thisāll be happening to Phil a lot more oftenā¦
