šŸ•›ļø All AI Data Gone By 2026

... and Amazonā€™s Grab n Go Was a Lie

Hello, fellow nerds šŸ§™

So thereā€™s this image floating around Twitter, and the person who was responsible for it needs a goddamn medal. Check that, make that two medals. And an AI program to do this for them. Come on nowā€¦

Say hello to the market map of nightmares: A comprehensive list of every AI company out there.

an AI market map that shows every single AI company out there...and there's a lot
Hereā€™s the daily quests in AI to complete today:

AIs Are Gluttons for Data and Could Eat It All up by 2026

Turns out, the AI industry might be running out of high-quality training data faster than we thought.

But why is that such a big deal?
Well, to train a top-notch AI model, you need a serious amount of high-quality data. For instance, ChatGPT alone was trained on 570 gigabytes of text data. To put that in perspective, that's like reading the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy... 100,000 times.

And don't forget about the stable diffusion algorithm behind apps like DALL-E and Midjourney. That thing was trained on 5.8 billion image-text pairs. Billion, with a B.

But here's the thing: quality matters just as much as quantity. You can't just toss any old data at an AI model and expect it to work miracles. Social media posts? Forget about it. Not unless you want your AI to start spouting some seriously questionable stuff ā€”Microsoft definitely learned the hard way on that one.

So, what's the plan?
AI developers are looking into a few options:

  • Making algorithms more efficient with the data they already have

  • Using AI to whip up some synthetic data

  • Hunting down content outside the free online space

News Corp is already in talks with AI developers to sell their paywalled content, so AI is probably not going to run out of dataā€¦yet.

Amazonā€™s Walk Out Technology Never Existed

Grab and go shopping. No interaction needed. Zero lines. Never wait.

That was the promise of the ā€œjust walk outā€ technology Amazon touted.

Come to find out, it was simply smoke and mirrors. Ya know, like how VAC claims to exist yet everyone ā€œjust keeps spinning, spinning, spinning.ā€ šŸ˜”

To keep up the faƧade, Amazon implemented an army of over 1,000 workers in India who were technically remote cashiers as well as enough cameras and sensors for a first time parent to track a one centimeter movement from a newborn baby.

Although the idea behind a revolutionary checkout experience was greatā€¦ now we know their retail AI was an overhyped marketing tactic.

TLDR: Sometimes, even when AI sounds like itā€™s the answer, the technology is just too expensive and too slow to implement.

Perplexity AI - The New and Improved AI Google

Before we dive into the walkthrough, letā€™s explain why itā€™s so good.

To be frank, itā€™s built off of Google search results. But what it does better than Google, is when you ask Perplexity.AI a questionā€¦ it creates a summarized answer with all of its references.

Weā€™re diehard Googlerā€™s but Perplexity has our attention.

Daily Delight

Just something fun and interesting around the web.

We never thought weā€™d see Snapchat filters go to this level, but oh boy are we happy they did. This is just pure genius outta the Pacerā€™s camp šŸ‘

Whatā€™s happening inside the Realm

A list of side quests to explore and more.
  • šŸ“° Yahoo just snagged Artifact News, an AI-powered news site cooked up by the same brains behind Instagram. You know what they say ā€œIf you canā€™t beat ā€˜em, join ā€˜emā€.

  • ā›½ļø Get ready for the future of pit stops: an AI gas station with robotic chefs is officially here. Just don't ask the bots for their secret sauce recipe ā€“ they might have to kill ya.

  • šŸ‘® Anthropic researchers have stumbled upon a new "jailbreaking" technique they're calling "many-shot jailbreakingā€. This really just means they found a loophole to navigate around any guardrails put in place.

  • Microsoft is working on an AI chatbot for Xbox thatā€™ll assist with pretty much every Xbox gamer request possible. Thereā€™s no release date yet, but hopefully, itā€™ll be better than the generic forum responses we generally getā€¦

Thatā€™s all the quests we have for today. Check back tomorrow for more!
