🧠 Your PC is About to Remember Everything

PLUS: AI’s Black Box Swings Wide Open

Hello, fellow nerds 🧙

Would you ever let an AI do your dating for you? Or simply vet other AI bots to see if the owner of said bot was the perfect match?

Well, Bumble seems to think that’s the future. And they’re betting instead of you having to go through a multitude of matches, you’re going to be getting a lot fewer, higher quality potential dates. Ya know, quality over quantity. I don’t know, the future sounds kinda weird.

Here’s the daily quests in AI to complete today:

Your PC is About to Remember Everything

And when I say everything, boy do I mean everything.

During Microsoft’s conference, they announced a new feature coming to every Windows 11 PC called, “Recall”. It’s exactly what it sounds like.

Everything you’ve looked up, everything picture you’ve saved, every chat you’ve had in Discord, or any email you’ve sent or received can be recalled simply by asking your PC. And you can look things up from months ago if your heart desires.

Literally, it’s as simple as that.

Now, this definitely sounds like some Black Mirror type shit because of the Holy Grail of data that Microsoft could collect, but they claim that everything will be local on your machine and not sent to their data hungry cloud.

This guy brings up some valid points of concerns:

So, will we be using it? You know we’re gonna be trying it. I mean, how could you not want to? But with all the access that this AI could have, sheesh, yeah it is mildly concerning to say the least.

Even Elon Musk gave his concern to Recall

But, hey, Recall will still be hella useful and if every piece of your data can stay snug on your machine, well, what an insane piece of tech. It’s the flipside that we’re worried about…

AI’s Black Box Swings Wide Open

To be frank, AI systems are hardly regulated by “rules.”

Just Feed It
Unlike traditional coding which creates boundaries and precise instructions, Artificial Intelligence Large Language Models are simply fed vast amounts of data for “training.”

Ya know, a hot dog eating contest on steroids. The more it can eat, the better.

The AI Brain
Now, once the data is fed in, the AI models create a brain-like structure called a neural network. Similar to how our brains work, it creates relationships between words/concepts but it’s entirely backed by mathematics (decimal point numbers).

For years, we’ve been continuing to push the boundaries of AI without truly understanding how the complexities of AI work but the company behind the LLM Claude, Anthropic, is crackin’ that sh*t open.

Feat. The Features Technique
A new technique to scan the AI model’s brain allows them to find “features.” These features are collections of neurons which are essentially a grouping of neurons which create a concept.

By pinpointing various “features” they’ve been able to essentially control Oz behind the curtain and adjust the model according to their preferences.

It’s Still a Sh*t Show
Yet, there is still controversy among all of the different angles at which any problem or concept could be approached. For example, our brain creates thousands of connections with a simple word of ball.

How do you control and suppress every link to that one simple word? Sounds like we’re on the horizon to find out…

đź’Ľ Workforce Wednesday

Let’s dive deeper into how AI will transform work.

Electronic Arts (EA) - Battlefield Franchise
Remote - Head of ML and AI
The nerds behind the Battlefield franchise, are looking for some AI nerd to do some cool AI sh*t to make Battlefield better.
$172k- $279k
This ain’t a joke… you need a Master’s Degree, 4+ years of experience and lots of experience in programming, gaming, cloud platforms, SQL, ML model implementation and more!

DeepNight - Y Combinator Startup
Remote - Computational Imaging AI Research Scientist
As a researcher, you’ll mess with algorithms, validate them in real world situations, then publish findings.
$300k - $600k
Talk about a mouth full…. this one’s for them real nerdy folk only but with only needing 1+ years of experience and (flex that brain tissue)

🤗 Daily Delight

Just something fun and interesting around the web.

Ya know, there’s nothing more fun than cleaning out your gutters that are filled to the brim with a years worth of leaves… But what if you never had to clean them yourself again? Because this is the year 2024, and there seems to be a robot for damn near everything.

What’s happening inside the Realm

A list of side quests to explore and more.
  • 🎧️ What if you could choose what sounds your headphones filtered out, instead of completely noise cancelling everything around you?

  • đź“Ś Humane, the creators of the AI Pin, which flopped hardcore, is looking to sell its business. For the forseeable future, when it comes to AI tech and hardware, this’ll probably be a common occcurence until the AI hype settles down a bit.

  • 🤖 The Nvidia CEO gave us a little nugget about the future of gaming saying, “all the NPCs in video games will soon be chatbots and creating game worlds will be easier than ever.” Not gonna lie, definitely excited for that.

  • 🔍️ With AI powered search results comes a gross side of the interent…Ads. And apparently, Copilot is giving you said ads in your search results, which, might muddy the results a bit?

That’s all the quests we have for today. Check back tomorrow for more!
