🪫 Dealing with the Power Hungry Succubus
... and Battle of The AI Bands: Who Wins?
Hello, fellow nerds 🧙
They say it’s never too late to go back to school, and Don Buyer is a prime example of that.
He’s a 73 year old congressman who loves to read geometry books for fun, and has been tasked with regulating AI. Not knowing much about AI, he decided to get his freakin’ masters in machine learning. Hats off to this guy. Love to see the dedication.
Here’s the daily quests in AI to complete today:

Dealing with the Power Hungry Succubus
Thousands of GPUs are the heartbeat of the AI revolution and it’s not slowing down anytime soon. Although the exact numbers are undisclosed or confidential, all of the big dogs in the space have been hoarding between 10,000 and 150,000 GPUs. Each. And that number is only rising.
There’s a reason why OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, has been seeking $7 trillion dollars. He wants to build the GPU infrastructure to power the future.
“Compute is going to [be] the currency of the future.”
Sammy boy might be right, but only if we can sustainably power these hungry bastards. For a small comparison, our favorite desktop PC gamers use 1200 watts of pure gaming destruction. And 1200 watts alone will turn your gaming den into an overactive furnace.
But with thousands of GPUs unloading compute power, we could potentially take the grid offline. So, how do we combat the power hungry succubus in the room?
Advanced "reconductoring" of our outdated power grid.
It’s really just a fancy way of saying, replace the old janky aluminum cables with carbon fire cores and increased aluminum density to double electrical flow.
One of the biggest bottlenecks holding back solar and wind development has been a lack of modern transmission lines to move all that renewable power from A to B.
Thanks to permit delays, local opposition and regulatory hurdles, getting new power lines built in this country is a process that makes your yearly tax return feel snappy by comparison (and it’s about that time, April 15th is fast approaching).
Now to be clear, experts agree reconductoring alone won't magically solve America's transmission woes overnight. Even with double capacity, we're far from unlocking our full power potential. Grid sensors, AI congestion controllers and other high-tech optimizers will continue to play crucial roles too.
But leveraging advanced conductors to quickly extract way more capability from existing infrastructure? That's a no-brainer.
So while ripping out thousands of miles of dilapidated cable may not have the ooh-ahh factor of radical new energy breakthroughs, it could provide a pivotal boost to keep the U.S. competitive in the global AI revolution and green energy race.
Battle of the Bands: AI Edition
Just last week, we were raving about Suno, the spot to create whatever AI generated music your mind could come up with. Well, there’s a new band in town, Udio, and this one’s got the brains of ex Google DeepMind scientists behind it.
Who do you think will come out on top?
We were curious ourselves, so we put ‘em through the test. The prompt we used was: a song about gaming in my basement, synthwave, retro, upbeat.
A little note, we didn’t make any changes to any of the songs. The results are purely what the AI came up with.
First up, Suno.
Here’s the OG putting its AI creativity to the test.
Well, whaddya think?
Our audiophile ears noticed the sound quality is a smidge rough, but maybe through further prompting, this could be cleared up. Otherwise, from one prompt, shit, this has the potential to be a banger.
Up next, Udio.
Thoughts?
Gonna be real, this was entirely different. Already having some pretty high expectations from Suno, Udio kinda missed the mark here. And by kinda, sheesh, by a long shot. The sound quality was better, no doubt there. But the delivery… it’s like getting a cream filled donut, but the cream has left the building.
Again, this was purely done with one prompt, so maybe some future tweaking could be done with Udio. But from an ease of use standpoint, it’s easy to pick the winner here.
Suno takes the cake.
Hands down. In fact, after writing this newsletter, we’re definitely gonna dive into Suno and finish up that song. Wish us luck on our new music career 🤞

AI Dungeon
For a “vintage” gaming experience, check out this text-based gaming portal.
It’s a fun, low bandwidth game which combines the grace of a fiction book with your imagination, especially if you’re traveling!
Simply choose a setting, character, and name, then you’re off to the races. Surprise, surprise, we chose: fantasy and wizard 😆
To play, there are four actions you can take:
Do - Do an act
Say - Speak
Story - Tell what happens next in the story
See - Describe what you see
Example: There were runes and incantations on the walls of an entrance hall.
Do: “You chant a spell to read the carvings and runes”
Response: You clear your throat and begin to chant an ancient incantation, your voice echoing through the entrance hall as you focus your magical energies on the carvings and runes etched into the walls. As you continue to chant, you feel a surge of power coursing through your body, and the air around you begins to shimmer and crackle with energy. Suddenly, the carvings and runes on the walls spring to life, glowing with a faint, otherworldly light. They begin to swirl and dance, forming intricate patterns and shapes that you struggle to decipher. You concentrate, trying to make sense of the arcane symbols, and after a moment, you begin to understand their meaning.
Overall, the game reminded us of an in depth DnD campaign. It’s quite descriptive and does a great job drawing a picture of your situation and surroundings. Enjoy!

Just something fun and interesting around the web.
Big Star Wars nerds over here, so when we saw C3PO hoppin’ on the mic, consider our jaws dropped. This is all AI generated, but damn did the person put some time into making this. Lovin’ every second of it.
