šŸ’Ŗ Software Engineers Just Became OP AF

... and girls read comic books???

Hello, fellow nerds šŸ§™

Thereā€™s a new report floating around that claims AI is going to be an ā€œextinction-levelā€ event. Oh boyā€¦šŸ¤¦ šŸ¤¦

Yes, we get that AI is scary. And yes, there are certainly dangers. Of course, there are, as with anything (looking at you, internet). But AI sure isnā€™t a meteorite-flying-into-the-Earth-wiping-out-the-dinosaurs level of scary. Letā€™s not let fear guide decisions to hamstring AI, especially when the benefit to humanity is so damn high. āœŒļø

Hereā€™s the daily quests in AI to complete today:

Software Engineers Just Received The Biggest Buff Ever

Holy sweet mother of pearl, Software Engineers just became OP as f*ck. This is not a drill. I repeat, this is not a drill.

How??

Meet, Devin. The very first AI software engineer.

And heā€™s adding legit rocket fuel to the workflow of every single software engineer in the world ā€” all 26.9 million of them.

Hereā€™s Devin in action. We highly recommend you watch every video in this thread. Youā€™ll understand where weā€™re getting ā€œrocket fuelā€ from:

Has Devin blown your fricken mind yet?!

Now, there are a couple of ways you could look at our new best friend:

  1. Itā€™s ugly, it stinks, and I hate it for taking my job.

    OR

  2. Look at this beautiful son a bitch. Weā€™re taking over the world together.

We hope youā€™re in camp numero two.

Hereā€™s how we see it. Coding legends (assistants) like Devin could let software engineers focus on the creative side of their work instead of meticulously digging through lines to code with a fine-tooth comb just to realize thereā€™s a semicolon missing.

Please, Iā€™d rather be drug behind a horse on a gravel road than be strapped to a desk hunting for bugs ā€” Unless the bugs weā€™re hunting are in Helldivers and weā€™re fighting to save democracy. Then of course, Iā€™ll do my part.

I do want to add that assistants like Devin will completely dismantle the barrier of entry to code. Like, completely. If you have an amazing idea you want the world to see but have no clue where to start, here comes Devin to save the day. And whatā€™s great? This is the worst Devin is ever going to be.

So get your sunglasses on because the future of coding just got brighter šŸ˜Ž

Woah, Girls Read Comic Books?

Young adults have been devouring manga, Japanese comic books, at an alarming pace thee past few years and the IEEE Women in Engineering organization took notice.

Just like that cringe one way smoke you used to throw in mid for a competitive advantage, the IEEE is using Manga to encourage young women to consider a career in STEM.

Except their motives are admirable šŸ˜›

The above is only an example, showing page 1 of 4, but come onnnnn.

I whole heartedly believe with a combination of generative AI, Character Reference (see Walkthrough Wednesday below), and some creative thinking, we can make manga thatā€™s 100x more relatable than this!

šŸ—ŗļø Walkthrough Wednesday

Let the wizards be your guide to create something fun with AI.

šŸŽ‰ Finally, Senior Pictures With NO Wardrobe Changes

Thanks, MidJourney.

Frankly, if youā€™re a tech wizard and had both the time and patience to follow a simple 49 step tutorial, you probably couldā€™ve done it 6 months ago.

But for the rest of us, MidJourney released a simple to use ā€œCharacter Referenceā€ feature to use the SAME person/character for different images.

Senior pictures, professional photos, childrenā€™s books, movies, ads, social media, or just for funā€¦ the options are endless!

Original Image

Example of Character Reference Feature

The Prompt

Heā€™s a war photographer in the trenches, 1914, --cref https://s.mj.run/CqVyQEBGmjc --cw 100 --ar 40:21 --v 6.0

The Breakdown

Heā€™s a war photographer in the trenches, 1914
Change this part of the prompt to whatever description youā€™d like.

CREF stands for Character Reference - Change the link to a link to your reference/source image. This is the face that will be used for every image.
--cref https://s.mj.run/CqVyQEBGmjc

CW stands for Character Weight - change the weight to a value between 0 (least like the character reference) and 100 (most like the character reference). In other words, at 100, the image should be nearly identical to the original reference image.
--cw 100 --ar 40:21 --v 6.0

These two are optional prompts to give an AR which stands for Aspect Ratio and V which stands for Version of MidJourney to use.
--ar 40:21 --v 6.0

BONUS #1:

To create character sheets similar to the one below, simply prompt using:
