đ Soraâs About To Get Down and Dirty
... and AI Nurses Are 90% Cheaper Than Humans
Hello, fellow nerds đ§
We were always told to think before we speak, so why not have AI do the same?
Yep, AIs are now being developed to have an âinner monologueâ to think about an answer before spitting it out. The results? A massive improvement in common sense reasoning and math performance. Hmm, maybe there is something to this whole âthink before speakingâ thing after allâŚ
Hereâs the daily quests in AI to complete today:

Soraâs About To Get Down and Dirty
Announced: February 15, 2024
Release Date: By the end of 2024 (no official announcement yet)
Description: Text-to-Video (doesnât include voice currently)
Latest Controversy: Nudity
Warning: This article is not for the faint of heart
Rating Pending
Sora is anticipated to be released by the end of 2024 and the anticipation is killing us! They have 8 months to decide whether to allow the text-to-video generator to create videos with lots, little, or no nudity.
Itâs not an exaggeration, Sora creates such captivating realistic looking videos, OpenAI is using watermarks to help combat deepfakes (manipulated digital media that is intentionally disguised as authentic).
In the latest interview with their CTO, Mira Murati, itâs clear they havenât made the decision whether theyâre going to stay rated E for everyone, T for Teen or go full bore AO for Adults Only.
Although OpenAI hasnât explicitly said yes or no, there have been rumors they are exploring the idea of âcreative flexibilityâ for artists. But what does that mean and where is the line in the sand?
"OpenAI has a challenging decision to make around this, because for better or worse, the reality is that probably 90 percent of the demand for AI-generated video will be for pornography,"
Now thatâs a bold statement, cotton.
To Centerfold or Not to Centerfold
The question OpenAI is asking themselves⌠would AI pornography be a net negative or net positive for the $97 billion dollar industry? After all, the industry exists and weâre still plagued with issues like human trafficking, sexual abuse and child pornography.
"That creates an unpleasant dynamic where, if centralized companies creating these models arenât providing that service, that creates an extremely strong incentive for the gray market to provide that service."
History Leaves Clues
Although the U.S. hasnât created any significant legislation (rules and regulations) around AI yet (unlike our European counterparts), itâs likely we will come up with something quick and weâre usually quite strict.
According to an AI Policy Institute poll, they found 87% of respondents believe companies developing the AI models should be held legally liable.
With great power, comes great responsibility, Sora. Write that down.
AI Nurses Are Here and Theyâre 90% Cheaper Than Humans
Yep, you read that right. A whopping 90% cheaper.
Weâre talkinâ $9 an hour kind of cheaper.
Hats off to HippocraticAI, who dropped an entire suite of nurses trained in different specialties.
Whatâs crazy is these AI nurses are actually outperforming human nurses in bedside manner, something youâd think AI couldnât nail because of, well, this thing called emotions. Particularly, empathy.
But, itâs 2024 so anything seems to be possible.
To show you what the future will look like, hereâs Linda, a congestive heart failure discharge specialist:
Now, Linda is far from perfect. She could still be a lot more conversational, but this is the worst sheâs ever going to ever be.
Why This Matters
The world of healthcare is about to get hit with a hurricane and AI is the eye of the storm. And well, it starts with nurses.
We see two sides to this coin:
Nurses can finally catch a break if AI can offload some of the more administrative and arduous tasks. Thisâll leave more time and energy devoted to patients and lessen the burden nurses already carry, hopefully leading to less burnout.
Hospitals will see the $9 an hour price tag and be incentivized to replace the vast majority of their nursing staff, leaving only a few human nurses on deck for the more critical or human-preferring patients.
Our gut says number two will be the knee-jerk reaction for many, but option one will be the ultimate result.
Whatever side of the coin, finding the balance in the force between humans and AI has to be done with caution. If weâve learned anything from Yoda, this can be done, it can.
âď¸ Throwback Thursday
A little blast from the past.
That Time When IWHBYD Broke Halo 3
Ah, 2007. Halo 3 was out, Mt. Dew Gamefuel stocked the fridge, and copious amounts of Roma pizzas were being cooked back to back to fuel the grind.
What a time to be alive.
Youâd think life couldnât get any better in that moment. Well, youâd be oh so horribly wrong.
You see, there was a moment in Halo 3 that had gamers do a Gamefuel-infused spit take everywhere.
And it was all thanks to a certain skull âaka easter eggâ that had you jump through rings in a very particular order (4654534) during âThe Covenantâ mission. The skull? IWHBYD, or spelled out, âI would have been your daddyâ.
Donât ask, I have no idea where that came from.
Now the beauty of IWHBYD was it cranked up the one-liners of every NPC in the game to 10, and even unlocked special phrases. And, geez, there were a lot of them.
There was a particular set of NPCâs that could totally lose their AI minds at any point in time. Enter, the Marines.
The AI for these guys would get so gun-ho about their cute little one-liners that it would override every function.
So imagine youâre knee-deep in grunts and brutes when all of a sudden your AI marines stop everything and start screaming, âHello, boys! Iâm back!â or âBetcha canât stick it!â. Better yet, âTHIS IS SPARTA!â. All on repeat.
This was legit game-breaking. Need to progress through a mission with your Marine pals? Forget about it. Bart's brain is busted and he canât move another inch until he dies of one-liner exhaustion. Or a friendly plasma grenade.
Whatever comes first.
